I Want To Read *Salt* Like WHOA!

I just went out to our teen bookshelf and found this guy just hanging out, overlooked.

Salt, the first in a trilogy, looks really cool. *turning it over* Ooh, Bernard Beckett has an author blurb about it: "From a storyteller who makes the craft look effortless...Salt is brutal and uplifting in equal measure". Well, when you write a book like Genesis, you get to recommend anything you want to me, Mr. Beckett.

Oh hey, also, maps! I love when books have maps, especially when they are made up places. The author has more than 40 books to his name, both written for adults and teens. Why have I not heard of Maurice Gee before?

The inside jacket flap leaves the story sounding vague, which is exciting. I hate knowing everything about a book going in. Here is the library summary:

In this compelling fantasy Hari and Pearl must discover the secrets of Deep Salt in order to rescue Hari's father Tarl. Their journey becomes far more than a quest to save Tarl--their world is on the brink of unspeakable terror.

This sounds so good. I think I will inch it into my book list for Dystopian Teen Week (I'm going to figure out the exact days of DTW by Wednesday).

He's a New Zealand writer. I haven't seen any bloggers review this book before. I'm still pretty excited for it.
